The line has been used in "residential, commercial, industrial, and a wide array of specialized screening applications." --- ## 2. Screen Wall System® ### 2.1 Summary A commercial-grade screen panel and screen wall system, US Patent 7,938,163 / 8,365,805. Suitable for porches, decks, balconies, patios, and specialty applications such as exhaust vents, RF cages and concession stands. Markets: Residential / Commercial / Industrial / Specialty. Positioning, verbatim: "This is not a home center 'bargain' product. These are extremely high quality custom manufactured screening panels and walls that are priced accordingly." ### 2.2 Budgeting Budget a minimum of **$100.00 to $150.00 per running foot**. Actual cost may be far higher or lower based on final layout, sizes and options ordered. All orders are quoted; there is no price list. ### 2.3 Standard layouts Seven standard layouts, referenced in orders as "Layout 1" through "Layout 7", and shown on the source page as photographs of physical sample panels in that order: | Layout | Arrangement | | --- | --- | | 1 | One divider bar set low. Large light above, short light below. | | 2 | Two divider bars, one near the head and one near the sill. | | 3 | One divider bar low, with the lower light split by a centre mullion. | | 4 | One divider bar low, with a solid kick panel below it. | | 5 | Open panel, no divider bar. | | 6 | Divider bar with a baluster infill below, in the manner of a railing. | | 7 | One divider bar set high. Short light above, tall light below. | Because all panels are built to order, divider bars may be moved or added, or a fully custom layout supplied. ### 2.4 Screen Walls A "Screen Wall" is a larger master frame assembly with a standard or custom layout repeated within it. Ordering format is `Layout # - repeats`, giving model codes such as Model 1-1, Model 1-2, Model 1-3, Model 1-4. ### 2.5 Components and part codes | Code | Component | | --- | --- | | SW-MF | Master Frame | | SW-MD | Center Divider | | SW-CNR | Corner Insert | | SW-R | "r" Channel | | SW-ANG01 | Angle Stop | | SW-STP01 | Inside Stop | A CAD set is available on request by email. ### 2.6 Load testing Testing is conducted both in laboratory (controlled) and in-house (real world) conditions. Published figures: | Test | Figure | | --- | --- | | Wind load | 135 MPH | | Static load to frame | 400 lb | | Static load to screen | 44 lb | Company description: panels are "virtually unbreakable". ### 2.7 Screen material Panels and walls are automatically screened "Standard" with polyester "Pool & Patio" screen material: pet resistant, ultra durable, expected life 15 to 20 years under normal conditions. Other screen options and an "upgraded" screen installation are available. Which installation is used may be dictated by the manufacture sizes ordered. ### 2.8 Finishes Stocked: | Finish | Type | Reference | | --- | --- | --- | | White | Commercial powder coat | Tiger Drylac Series 49 / 11340 | | Bronze | Commercial powder coat | Tiger Drylac Series 38 / 60060 | | Mill | Unfinished aluminium | Supplied "as is" from the extruder | Also available: | Finish | Type | | --- | --- | | Black | Commercial powder coat | Limited availability, confirm the finish and the lead time at quotation: | Finish | Type | | --- | --- | | Clear anodized | Anodized aluminium | Mill should be fully and properly prepared prior to any finish application. Custom, per order: full RAL spectrum powder coating; colour match Kynar paint (2 or 3 coat); Class I and Class II anodizing. ### 2.9 Off-season / winterization inserts Panels and walls will accept winterization dead lite inserts. Advance planning is required, since panels must be sized within the limitations of the inserts. Retainer hardware can be installed during manufacture or later after installation. Offered: commercial extruded c-sash wrapped plexiglass or tempered glass dead lites. Aftermarket dead lites can be used, but the company highly recommends only commercial 3/8" extruded c-sash dead lite panels with pile weather seal, available from any commercial glass shop. ### 2.10 Door slabs Unhung slab doors are offered; any Screen Wall System® panel can be used as a door slab. A "Standard" slab is offered. The recommendation is to fully frame out the door jamb and hang the slab independent of any screen panel or wall. Exact measurements must be specified for manufacture. ### 2.11 Installation methods Panel sizes cannot be calculated until the installation method is determined. Each method has different measuring and sizing instructions. | Method | Description | Sizing implication | | --- | --- | --- | | Small Stop Mount | Stops installed on all sides of the opening; panels pushed forward against the stop, then face screwed into the stop or side screwed into the structure's columns. | Sized to fit within the opening. | | Large Stop Mount | Oversized fascia creates the stop; otherwise as above. | Sized to fit within the opening. | | "r" Channel Mount | The "r" channel acts as a mounting flange or starter strip on one, two or four sides; the unit is screwed through the channel flange. Can be reversed to install around the opening. | Must allow for the channel itself. | | Angle Stop Mount | Commercial method: angle stop on all four sides, panel pushed forward against it, interior stop then installed firmly against the frame. Base and side shimming with foam or blocks may be required to centre the panel. | Sized to the opening plus shim clearance. | | Face Mount | Panel sized LARGER than the opening so the frame overlaps three or four sides; centred over the opening and face screwed. | Sized LARGER than the opening. | | Other / alternatives | Customer-designed installations using stock extrusions and other materials. | Governed by the customer's own drawing. | Guidance for self-designed installations: keep it simple and secure, carefully plan and calculate all sizes, and always consider future repair needs. ### 2.12 Mulling, joining panels in one opening The "r" channel is an ambidextrous, multi-use extrusion usable as a mounting flange, starter strip, seam cover, expander, corner or door stop. Orientation differs by panel count. Notching is required for all applications. | Configuration | Channels | Total width reduction | | --- | --- | --- | | 2 panels, vertical seam | 2 | 1/4" per frame | | 3 panels, vertical seam | 4 | 1" total across the three panels | | 4+ panels, vertical seam | 6 | 1-1/2" total across the four panels | | Stack mounting, horizontal seam | - | See detail | The reduction is 1/4" per "r" channel. It may be taken from one panel, some, or all of them; spreading it equally is usual. For three panels needing 1" total, valid allocations include 1/4"+1/2"+1/4", 0"+1"+0", or 1/2"+0"+1/2". However it is allocated, it must equal the total required reduction, and it is applied AFTER all other panel sizing calculations. ### 2.13 Warranty 30 year limited warranty. "We will repair or replace, at our discretion, any parts found to have a manufacturing defect during the first 30 years of normal application and service." Not covered: damage, labour, misapplication, incorrect installation, screen, hardware. --- ## 3. Simplicity® Screens ### 3.1 Summary Residential / entry grade insert and panel screening system offering good value and quality. Best suited to insert-style porch, patio and deck screen projects; also usable as an entry level panel screening option. Well suited to triangles, trapezoids and other odd shapes, and a good choice where job-site fabrication is required. Easy DIY assembly requiring only basic tools and skills. ### 3.2 Specification | Field | Value | | --- | --- | | Profile | 7/16" x 1" | | Gauge | .024g | | Construction | Roll formed, assembled with colour-matching square cut corners | | Maximum insert size | 96 UI, with full trim installation | | Maximum recommended panel size | 156 UI | | Finishes | Mill, Bronze, White, Tan | | Warranty | 1 year limited | Sizing note: the closer you are to, and the more you exceed, the maximum recommended UI size, the more flexible the frame will be. The larger the panel, the more secure the installation must be. ### 3.3 Support bars Support bars are structural, resulting in a substantially sturdier frame. They are recommended in any screen panel with a height or width over 48". The bar should run parallel to the shortest dimension and sit at approximately 1/3 the distance of the longest dimension. Standard location is 36" up from the base, which is typical for most porch, patio and deck applications. ### 3.4 Installation Mounting screens inside of the opening: Small Stops; Small Stops With Trim; Large Stops; Large Stops With Trim. Mounting screens over the opening: Face Mount. Each has its own measuring PDF. These are the most common methods, not the only ones; an application may require a combination or another method entirely. ### 3.5 Seasonal hardware For off-season removal, hardware is available instead of a semi-permanent installation: bail latch, plastic twist lock, hanger, cast twist lock, pull latch, spring. Caveat: hardware usage is not recommended for year-round installations unless a sufficient amount has been installed to withstand off-season conditions. ### 3.6 Warranty 1 year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, on the same terms and with the same exclusions as the Screen Wall warranty. --- ## 4. Other products Besides Screen Wall and Simplicity, Connecticut Enclosures and Screens also offers self-contained roll type screens, structural screen systems, glass and plexiglass inserts, Premier® extrusions, and raw screen frame materials. --- ## 5. DIY assembly Home manufacture is described as achievable: "DIY'ers of average skill will be able to assemble simple 4-sided Master Frame panels, when utilizing proper tools and work environment, with little trouble." Master frame tools: mitre saw with a blade approved for aluminium; power drill; #26 drill bits; power screw gun; P2R Phillips sheet rock driver bit; a work area at least as large as the largest panel; assembly jig. Divider extrusion tools: table saw with an aluminium-approved blade; painters tape; #27 drill bits; counter sink / deburring bit. Timing: approximately 3/4 to 1 hour per screen frame; 1/2 to 3/4 hour per divider. Key dimensions: master frame drilling positions are centred on the drill line at 1-1/2" and 3-1/4" in from the outside edge on all corners. Divider notches are 1/2" x 1/2" removed from each end on the spline side. Divider mounting holes are drilled with a #27 bit, positioned 3/16" in from the cut end and 5/16" inward from the top and bottom. Critical cautions: when cutting master frame extrusion, the spline channel must be cut to the inside of the angle. Never force a bound assembly screw or reuse one, remove and discard it. Most assembly mistakes happen when the frame "walks" during drilling of the second hole. --- ## 7.
